I am very disappointed with Square

I am very disappointed with Square. I have used their services for three years. A client hired me for a service, which I completed. He paid me through Square, but after two months, he filed a dispute. I provided Square with signed contracts, a copy of his ID, conversations, and phone call records as evidence. However, they didn’t fight for me and allowed the client to steal from me. I lost $400—not a huge amount, but as a small business owner, every dollar matters. I expected Square to fight for their customers, but they failed me. I am now in the process of canceling their services and switching to another platform.

I decided to switch to Square after I.

I decided to switch to Square after I had non stop issues with SumUp and I can’t express how brilliant the customer service is with Square! I ran into some issues with verification on my ID and account, whenever I’d try to verify my I’d get taken to purchase hardware, I emailed square and got a response within hours. (same day) I decided to give them a call too as I needed the terminal to be up and running soon, waited about a minute and I got put through. They fixed the problem almost straight away and now my account is back to normal. As for the ID verification, it took less than 5 minutes and I was verified. I couldn’t recommend them enough!

We process on average of 30k + a month.

We process on average of 30k + a month and every payment gets put on hold and held for more than a week. If you are a business and need to process payments please steer clear of these people. They will affect your operations more then they will help

Square has come a long way and addressed most of the concerns I previously had. They have gotten much better!

TERRIBLE BUSINESS, DO NOT RECOMMEND

Great to know that Square will terminate/delete your account at ANY TIME. It feels awesome to run transactions through this and to be terminated for NO REASON at all. We called customer support to get to the bottom of this and they told us "we are unable to discuss further on why your account has been deactivated". I wouldn't recommend square to my worst enemy, they are scammers and do not care about their customers.

Square froze my funds after one transaction — no explanation, no support

I used Square (Squareup) once to process a payment for a guitar repair through my small business. After attempting to transfer the funds to my debit card, I received an email saying my account was deactivated and that the funds would be held for 90 days — with absolutely no reason given.I contacted customer service. The first rep said he didn’t know why the account was shut down but promised to escalate and call me back. He never did. When I called again, the second rep refused to check the case notes, refused to connect me to a manager, and hung up on me when I mentioned recording the call (even though they record their own calls).Now, I can’t reach anyone — just an automated message that blocks further support. I never violated any policy, and the money was never even transferred — it’s just sitting in Square’s account. No warning, no justification, and no way to resolve it.This is an outrageous way to treat small business owners. If you're considering using Square, be warned: they can take your money and disappear behind automated walls.

Then, you start accepting payments using seven convenient methods. The methods are truly fast and convenient—all so that your clients can bring them money faster for your hard-earned work.3. After receiving your first payment, the games begin – You get five of the simplest questions, after which your account is restored to working condition—so you can bring them even more money.4. As your sales increase, the same questions come back – You receive payments from more clients, your revenue grows, and guess what? They send you the same questions again. Why? For what reason? You answer and then wait two days just to get responses to the same questions again.5. You decide to open a savings account to store your money with interest, but guess what? You receive the same questions again—ha ha ha, over and over. And no, this is not a joke. And yes, until you answer them, your funds are frozen—meaning they can use your money while you wait for their decision. But okay, that part is clear enough!So here’s what happened:I decided to open a savings account, got asked the same set of questions for the third time, and after answering them, I got my account deactivated—with $11,000 in it, earned from my services!!Square, have you lost your mind?? When I had $3K–$5K in my account, you kept sending me the same set of questions, but it wasn’t profitable for you to deactivate my account. However, when I went to open a savings account with $11K, you responded with deactivation and a 120-day freeze on my funds?!Hey, what’s going on?? On what basis can a savings account and my main account (my business, my payments) be linked in any way?!Fine, you didn’t want to let me open a savings account—but what does that have to do with my payments?! If you don’t want to approve the savings account, then just don’t approve it—why block my entire account and freeze my funds?!YOU ARE CLEARLY SCAMMERS AND FRAUDSTERS. This is a standard Ponzi scheme!
