I am a licensed professional operating a non-profit organization. After multiple attempts to set up and resolve issues with my Square account, I received a final message from Square stating their decision to close my account—without any explanation or details. This lack of communication and transparency was disappointing, frustrating and a waste of many hours of work.
After 6 Years, I'm Moving OnI’ve been a loyal Square user for six years, running three different businesses through their platform. Unfortunately, that relationship has come to an end. The turning point wasn’t just the unauthorized charges—which are unacceptable on their own—but the overall decline in customer service and company values. What’s most disappointing is how much Square has changed. It once felt like a company that truly supported small business owners. Now, it feels impersonal, rigid, and profit-driven at the expense of customer trust. With so many competitive alternatives offering comparable features and more responsive support, I won’t be looking back. I hope Square re-evaluates how it treats long-standing customers before more of us walk away.
By me being a new business owner I can say the Square team has help me out tremendously!!👍👍 especially dealing with refund issues from time to time so far they have made my customer’s happy and I looking forward to have a good reputation with my small business and also with my square account . I am glad and bless that I am dealing with the Square team 👍👍 and looking forward to grow my business even more.
‼️ I’m honestly baffled by the positive reviews! At first, square seemed like an interesting, simple, and convenient platform. I received my first payment from a long-time client of my business, and right after that, I got a set of very basic verification questions. They also offered an optional step to upload identity documents, which I did. Everything went smoothly, and within a couple of hours, I received a positive response.A week later, I continued working with my loyal client. After second payment, I suddenly received an email from square stating that they needed to "verify my identity" through their third-party provider, KYC veriff. This request struck me as extremely suspicious—after all, I had already submitted my ID during the initial verification. But fine, I played along. I went through the verification process, and Veriff confirmed my identity with a blue checkmark. Shortly after, square sent me an email confirming they had received my documents and promised a response within two days.Four hours later, they deactivated my account.I immediately refunded my client, withdrew my money, and cut all ties with this platform. The real kicker? Veriff approved my documents, but square didn't. The same documents that were perfectly fine during my first verification were now suddenly unacceptable. This is beyond shady—fraud, bias, hypocrisy, and blatant reputation destruction. Is Square just another scam harvesting data from small businesses? I don’t know, but shareholders should seriously take a look at what’s happening.I absolutely do not recommend using Square. 😡😡😡
Square closed my account after 3 weeks for no reason for my limo business and now are holding onto over $3,000 of my money for the next 90 days minimum! I only had an account for a couple weeks and never had a customer issue. This is a scam!!! Avoid at all costs.
Do not engage with this company! They deactivate accounts while holding funds. We are a large company working with multiple payment processors in parallel. We registered a Square account a week ago, completed the setup, and processed our first payment. In response, we received a series of questions, to which we provided accurate documents and explanations. Exactly 6 minutes later, our account was deactivated. Do not even attempt to work with them – you will waste your time and effort. How could they have reviewed all the information we provided in just 6 minutes?! This is blatant SCAMM.
The worst. I got a deposit for a job with a 3 week lead time to deliver. Thinking it would take 3-4 business days to transfer the balance to my bank account to buy the customers material to do the job. It has now been 13 days since I received that deposit and the balance has not been transferred. It’s $4,300 trapped in my square account. The first time I called customer support, the representative told me that I had to answer some verification questions, at no point did I get an email or a phone call from them asking to answer any questions. So after she sent the link to answer the questions, the link led me to my dashboard with no questions on it at all. So I called back and the second person told me that I don’t have to answer any questions after all, and that the transfer would be escalated, expected transferred in one to two business days. Three days go by and I call back, now the third person I spoke to said that the second person did escalate the transfer, but to the wrong department. so now he was going to expedite the transfer, but it was going to take another one to two business days. Three more days go by, I call back, now the fourth person I’m talking to says that my account is under review and that I need to wait two more business days. Two more days go by, now the fifth person I talk to said that I need to answer more verification questions, I did that last night, now being told I need to wait 1 to 3 business days. How am I supposed to run a business like this? I will never use this app again, should have used QuickBooks from the start.
